Course Overview

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program at Ascend Healthcare Academy is designed to equip students with the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary to provide high-quality care to patients in various healthcare settings. This comprehensive program emphasizes both theoretical understanding and hands-on training, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to enter the healthcare workforce with confidence.

Our CNA program curriculum covers a wide range of topics essential for effective patient care:

1. Introduction to Nursing Assisting:

2. Basic Patient Care:

  • Personal hygiene and grooming

  • Assisting with mobility and transfers

  • Feeding techniques and nutritional support

 

3. Vital Signs and Observations:

  • Measuring and recording vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure)

  • Recognizing abnormal findings and reporting

 

4. Safety and Infection Control:

Understanding hygiene and infection prevention

Workplace safety practices and emergency procedures

 

5. Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

Effective communication with patients and families

Teamwork in healthcare settings

 

6. Patient Rights and Ethical Responsibilities:

Understanding patient confidentiality and rights

Ethical considerations in patient care

Duration and Schedule

The CNA program at Ascend Healthcare Academy is designed for flexibility to accommodate our students' needs. The program can be completed in 8 weeks, combining classroom instruction with clinical training.  We will offer day classes Monday to Friday and Weekend classes.

Certification Process

Upon successful completion of the CNA program, students will be eligible to sit for the state certification exam. The certification process includes:

1. Completion of the Program: Students must successfully complete all coursework and clinical training requirements.

2. Final Assessment: A comprehensive assessment will evaluate students' knowledge and practical skills.

3. State Certification Exam: After passing the final assessment, students will be provided with information on how to register for the state CNA certification exam, which includes a written test and a skills test.

4. Obtain Certification: Upon passing the state exam, students will receive their CNA certification, allowing them to work as Certified Nursing Assistants in various healthcare facilities.
